Spotted this wooden hut at Pulau Ubin. Long ago, people on the island used to stay in these wooden huts. You rarely find them on the main island of Singapore now. My very 1st interaction was probably when i was around 3-4 years old when mom brought me to visit her grandma who was staying in the Changi area. Remembered vividly, you see many clusters of wooden huts and everyone seems to know one another. They called it kampung. People were were very self sufficient then. They grew their own vegetables, fruits and rear poultry, like chicken and ducks. Today around 85% of people in Singapore stays in public housing (built & maintained by Housing & Development Board) and some 15% in private residential housing.
